Big worry for Xi Jinping as China faces new threat, disaster approaching at 30 km per hour, orange alert issued for…, it is…

While war and conflict can stir international tensions, they are arguably not as destructive as natural disasters. Natural disasters can be more dangerous than any war or conflict since their magnitude and ferocity often occur outside human control. Earthquakes, tsunamis, super typhoons, flooding, and wildfires unleash their fury so quickly that whole regions can be destroyed completely in mere moments. Unlike wars due to people made decisions, natural disasters serve as a greater reminder that nature has a larger precedence over humans. The increased frequency and ferocity of natural disasters could jeopardize the human race as we know it.

What is the new threat approaching China at 30 km/h?

After Super Typhoon Ragasa, China, Pakistan’s close ally, is struggling with a significant challenge. On Saturday, China’s National Observatory issued an orange alert for Typhoon Matmo. This warning level is the second-highest of its four-tier system. Matmo is the 21st storm of the year and is heading strongly toward China’s southern coast. According to the National Meteorological Center (NMC), as of 5 a.m. Saturday, the typhoon was located at 18°N latitude, and 117.7°E longitude, moving toward the northwest at a speed of 25–30 kilometers per hour, reported News18 Hindi.

When is the typhoon expected to make landfall?

The NMC noted that, on Sunday, the typhoon is expected to make landfall during the daytime in the coastal area from Dianbai in Guangdong Province to Wanning in Hainan Province in southern China. Between the morning of Saturday and the morning of Sunday, the typhoon is likely to bring strong winds and heavy rain to China’s southern coastal region. According to news agency Xinhua, the National Observatory has urged local governments to be on alert for the typhoon by implementing emergency response actions, and to be especially diligent regarding the potential for mountain torrents and geological disasters due to the expected heavy rain.

How fast is the disaster moving, and what areas are most at risk?

“It is predicted that from 08:00 on October 5 to 08:00 on October 6 , parts of most areas of Hainan Island, southwestern Guangdong, southern Guangxi, etc. will have heavy rain to torrential rain, and local torrential rain (250-320 mm) ; in addition, parts of the Sichuan Basin, central and southern Shaanxi, central and southern Shanxi, southern Hebei, northern Shandong, northern Henan, etc. will have heavy rain, among which there will be local torrential rain in the northern Sichuan Basin, southern Shaanxi, southwestern Shanxi, etc.; some of the above-mentioned areas will be accompanied by short-term heavy rainfall, with the maximum hourly rainfall of 20-40 mm, and local rainfall in South China may exceed 80 mm,” reads the statement on the official website of National Meteorological Center (NMC).

In China, there is a four-tiered, color-coded weather warning system for typhoons. Red indicates the highest level of alert, followed by orange, yellow and blue, respectively. The Ministry of Emergency Management stated that on October 3, anticipating Typhoon Matmo 2025, the 21st storm of the season in the Pacific region, the government launched a Level-4 emergency flood and typhoon response in the southern provinces of Guangdong and Hainan, as reported by News18 Hindi.

As per a Reuters report, Chinese officials have announced they will cancel flights and ferry services in Hainan on Saturday night due to Typhoon Matmo, which could impact the peak holiday travel period on the vacation island.
