China plans to teach Trump a lesson after US slaps 100 percent tariff, calls move a ‘double standard’, Xi Jinping to…
China said that while the United States talks about openness in global trade on one hand, it implements protectionist policies on the other.

New Delhi: Beijing on Sunday accused Washington of applying double standards after the United States announced an additional 100 percent tariff on China. An unnamed spokesperson from China’s Ministry of Commerce said, “The US statement is an example of so-called double standards.” This response came after US President Doland Trump announced on Friday the imposition of an additional 100 percent tariff on goods imported from China.
Doland Trump, in his statement, said that this move was taken in response to the new export restrictions imposed by China on rare earth minerals. These are used in electric vehicles, smartphones, and defense equipment.
The Ministry of Commerce said, “These actions have seriously harmed China’s interests and severely weakened the environment for economic and trade talks between the two sides. Threatening to impose high tariffs at every turn is not the right way to negotiate with China.”
China’s Reaction:
Reacting to this development, China said that while the United States talks about openness in global trade on one hand, it implements protectionist policies on the other. They stated, “The United States interprets international rules according to its own interests and blames other countries when they adopt the same principles.”
This new tension between the U.S. and China has escalated at a time when the two leaders, Doland Trump and Xi Jinping, were scheduled to meet at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. Analysts say that China’s response indicates that Beijing may also consider potential retaliatory measures, which could impact global supply chains and markets.
