Cyclone ALERT: IMD predicts cyclonic storm over Bay of Bengal by October 27, heavy rain forecasted for Tamil Nadu; Check latest weather update
In the last 24 hours, many parts of Tamil Nadu received heavy rain. Pallipattu in Tiruvallur district recorded the highest rainfall at 15 cm, followed by Nalumukku in Tirunelveli with 12 cm.
The India(BHARAT) Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday that a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into a cyclonic storm by the morning of October 27. With the Northeast monsoon now active, Tamil Nadu is expected to get rain for the next two to three days because of this weather system. According to the IMD, the low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal has been moving slowly towards the west-northwest and is currently stationary. The system is expected to intensify into a depression by October 25, a deep depression by October 26, and a cyclonic storm over the southwest Bay of Bengal by October 27.

The weather system formed early Friday morning due to an upper air cyclonic circulation.
The IMD forecast says light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning will continue in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until October 28. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Cuddalore, Puducherry, Villupuram, and Chengalpattu districts.
For Chennai and nearby areas, the sky will stay partly cloudy, with maximum temperatures around 29 degree celsius and minimum between 24 degree celsius and 25 degree celsius. One or two spells of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning are likely over the next 24 to 48 hours.

October 26: Light to moderate rain is expected in many parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, with thunderstorms and lightning likely at one or two places.
Heavy rain may occur at isolated places in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Villupuram districts, and Puducherry.
October 27: Light to moderate rain is likely at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, along with isolated thunderstorms and lightning.
Heavy rain may occur in Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Chennai, and Ranipet districts.
October 28: Light to moderate rain is expected in some parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
Heavy rain may occur in Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Chennai, and Ranipet districts.
October 29: Light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
