‘Raped 4 times by sub-inspector… ‘: Woman doctor dies by suicide in Maharashtra’s Satara district, writes suicide note on hand
In that letter, she mentioned she was under severe mental stress and urged that the matter be properly investigated and strict action be taken against the guilty officers.
A woman doctor working at a district hospital in Satara, Maharashtra, died by suicide, and her suicide note has revealed shocking details. In a message written on her hand, she accused a police sub-inspector (SI) named Gopal Badne of raping her four times over a period of five months. She also said that his mental and physical harassment forced her to take the extreme step. The doctor was working as a medical officer at the Phaltan sub-district hospital. Her death on Thursday night has led to a major political controversy in the state. Following the allegations, the accused officer has been suspended.
Apart from the note found on her palm, the victim had earlier written a letter to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Phaltan on June 19, complaining about harassment by three officers — SI Gopal Badne, Sub-Divisional Police Inspector Patil, and Assistant Police Inspector Ladputre.
In that letter, she mentioned she was under severe mental stress and urged that the matter be properly investigated and strict action be taken against the guilty officers.
Satara District Police have registered a case against PSI Gopal Badane and Bankar, under charges of rape and abetment to suicide. The accused PSI has been suspended from duty with immediate effect. Police have launched an Investigation into the case, Satara District SP Tushar Doshi told news agency ANI.
Meanwhile, the victim’s cousin brother said that there was a “lot of police and political pressure” on her to make wrong mortem reports. “She tried to complain about it. My sister should get justice,” he added.
Taking cognisance of the incident, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke to the Satara superintendent of police, ordering the immediate suspension of the police officers named by the woman doctor in her suicide note.
Fadnavis, who also holds the Home Department portfolio, instructed that strict action be taken against all the accused involved in the case, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stated in a release.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Women’s Commission chief Rupali Chakankar said that the commission has taken serious note of the incident and ordered strict action against the accused police officers.
“We have taken cognisance of the case and directed the Satara Police to act immediately. Teams have been sent to find the accused. Anyone involved in this shocking incident will be punished,” Chakankar said.
The police investigation is currently underway, and multiple teams are working to verify the allegations and trace the accused officers, as public anger continues to rise over the disturbing case.
