New Delhi: Good news for those travelling on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway- the Modi government is all set to make the journey more comfortable and convenient for passengers. The National Highways Authority of India(BHARAT) (NHAI) has announced new parking areas and rest facilities along the Delhi section, serving passengers from the Akshardham Junction to the Uttar Pradesh border.

The main idea behind providing these facilities is to give safety, comfort, and essential services to travellers during their journey. NHAI stated that bids have been invited to develop these sites under the ‘Design, Build, Operate and Transfer’ (DBOT) model. The tender process is expected to be completed by October 16.

These parking zones will be equipped with several essential and modern amenities for travellers, including a first-aid room, clean drinking water, solar-powered lights, restrooms, an electronic parking fee system, and parking capacity indicators.

Here are some of the key details:

  • The new parking and rest facilities will be developed at three key locations along the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway.
  • These sites will be near the District Magistrate (DM) office in East Delhi, near Gandhi Nagar Market, and near Geeta Colony.
  • The Gandhi Nagar site will cover 1.4 hectares, the DM office site 0.8 hectares, and the Geeta Colony site 0.78 hectares.
  • Notably, 10% of the total parking space will be reserved for electric vehicles (EVs).
  • On the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, there will be food and beverage outlets, ATMs, air-filling stations, and Pollution Under Control (PUC) centers for travelers.

After the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is completed, travel time from Delhi to Dehradun will be significantly reduced. Currently, it takes about 5–6 hours to cover this distance, but after the expressway is ready, the journey will take only 2 to 2.5 hours.
