A mild earthquake measuring 2.9 magnitude was recorded in Bidar district on Sunday.
BIDAR: Low-intensity tremors measuring 2.9 on the Richter scale struck Karnataka’s Bidar on Sunday. According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), the mild quakes, which occurred at around 3:42 am, had a depth of 5 km. The epicentre was about 2.4 km northwest of Bhaskarnagar village. The small village is located in the Chittaguppa taluk of Bidar.
KSNDMC further informed that the intensity of the seismic activity was low and mild tremors had been felt within a radius of 30 to 40 km.
The earthquake took place in Seismic Zone-2, an area where the potential for damage is low.
“No harm has been reported, and residents need not panic as the tremor was of low intensity and non-destructive,” KSNDMC statement read.
Residents of Bhaskarnagar and nearby areas felt mild shaking, but the seismic activity caused no damage.
