Enraged US issues strict warning to Netanyahu over West Bank annexation, Trump stated clearly, ‘I will not allow Israel…’
Rubio has warned Israel that unilaterally enforcing laws in the occupied West Bank and annexing the occupied territories poses a threat to the peace process.

New Delhi: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned Israel that unilaterally enforcing laws in the occupied West Bank and annexing the occupied territories poses a threat to the peace process. This warning comes as the Israeli parliament passed a resolution to implement its own laws on the West Bank, a move considered controversial by Palestinians for their proposed future statehood.
US warns Israel
Marco Rubio said, “Attempts to annex the West Bank pose a potential threat to the peace agreement. Israel is a democratic country; it can take its own votes and positions, but at this time, this move could have adverse consequences.” Washington has repeatedly warned that any unilateral annexation of the West Bank would be considered crossing a “red line.” President Doland Trump stated clearly in September, “I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank. It will not happen.”
What is the situation in the West Bank?
Israel captured the West Bank from Jordan during the 1967 Six-Day War and has maintained military control over the territory ever since. While successive governments have avoided formal annexation, they have expanded settlements and declared large swathes of land as “state land,” blocking Palestinian ownership and development.
Israeli settlement attacks have increased
Following the Hamas attack in October 2023 and Israel’s military action in Gaza, Israel’s right-wing government accelerated settlement approvals in the West Bank. Israeli settlement attacks also increased during this period. According to UN data, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlements in the West Bank since October 2023. In the first half of 2025 alone, there were 757 recorded attacks, a 13% increase from the previous year.
Rubio said such moves could jeopardize delicate regional diplomacy. He reiterated that President Trump has made it clear that the US cannot support such steps at this time.
