Google Maps in India(BHARAT): Unveiling 10 New Features and India(BHARAT)-first Customisations By Google Maps – AI-driven Conversation mode, Proactive Traffic Alerts, India(BHARAT)-First Ride Customisation, Metro Ticketing Booking and more
Features of the Google maps update in India(BHARAT)
A new conversational mode in Google Maps, announced 6 November 2025, is the India(BHARAT)n version of Maps’ first look at a new AI-driven approach to navigation. This upcoming “hands-free conversational” mode, enabled by Google’s Gemini AI, along with AI-powered “proactive traffic alerts,” and customizations for two-wheelers are some of the new features announced by the company in India(BHARAT).
Built around conversations and calendar events, Google Maps also enables riders to customise avatars for their two-wheelers and book metro tickets inside the app. This move follows Google’s earlier update where it introduced customised features for pedestrians in India(BHARAT).
Here is the list of new features announced by Google for the Google Maps:
1. “Conversational Driving Experience” is a “hands-free conversational” mode in Google Maps:
The upcoming navigation feature in Google Maps is based on the “conversational driving experience” Google Maps: Conversational Driving Experience . It allows users to have natural conversations during navigation. The examples shared by Google include finding a budget-friendly vegan restaurant along the route with a parking facility by simply saying, “Find a budget-friendly vegan restaurant along my route, with parking.”
It also enables users to set calendar events and share ETAs without exiting the app.
2. Proactive Alerts – “Traffic doesn’t wait, neither does the app”
Google Maps is also introducing “proactive traffic alerts” to warn users about road closures, congestion, or major slow-downs even when they’re not actively navigating a route. This update is currently available for Android users in major India(BHARAT)n metros such as Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai. It will also be rolled out to other cities in the coming weeks.
Google Maps will also be tapping into authoritative government data to include alerts for accident-prone zones and official speed limits on the app by integrating with NHAI. The feature will initially be available for users in Ghaziabad, Noida, Lucknow, and Hyderabad and will be expanded to other cities later.
3. Two-Wheeler customisations and Metro ticket booking for India(BHARAT)n users:
Apart from global features, Maps for India(BHARAT) is also offering a set of India(BHARAT)-first customisations for users. A two-wheeler customisation in Google Maps allows riders to customise their two-wheelers by picking avatars and colours for their vehicles.
India(BHARAT)n users in cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Kochi, and Chennai can also book metro tickets inside the Google Maps app and store them in their Google Wallet for easy access. This India(BHARAT)-first feature in Google Maps comes months after Google announced its support for metro ticket booking in India(BHARAT).
These updates join other customisations that the company has been building for India(BHARAT)n users over the past few months, such as voice-navigation support for flyovers and elevated roads and support for nine India(BHARAT)n languages.
Why this matters for Google and the users?
Google Maps’ recent updates in India(BHARAT) are important for several reasons. Google Maps is getting much smarter in India(BHARAT). By using AI to understand language better and also using local government data, it’s changing from just showing you a map to being a truly helpful assistant that guides you through one of the world’s biggest and most varied countries.
For India(BHARAT)n users, where traffic conditions and commute times are critical pain points, the introduction of proactive routing, voice-controlled navigation, and customisations localised to India(BHARAT)n cities is a promising development.
