Grammys 2024: Taylor Swift hugs Celine Dion backstage after fans show uproar over their 'awkward exchange'

In a historic moment at the 66th Grammy Awards on Sunday night, Taylor Swift was awarded the ‘Album of the Year’ for her winning album Midnights, thus marking her fourth win in the category.

The singer took to the stage to receive the award and accepted the Album of the Year award from Celine Dion, who made an unexpected appearance amid health scares. While she seemed in a celebratory mood on the stage, it was an awkward moment with Dion, that drew criticism from a large section of social media users on the internet. At the event, Celine Dion received a standing ovation from the audience including Swift as everyone cheered and sang along to her famous 1993 cover of The Power of Love. Later, the 55-year-old Canadian singer took to the stage and announced the Midnights singer as the winner of the Album of the Year Award.

A surprised Swift took the stage, however, appeared to have ignored Dion while grabbing the gramophone statuette from her hands before proceeding with her acceptance speech. Further, in her acceptance speech, Swift made no mention of Dion, which sparked a controversy online with many calling it “disrespectful.”

Amid all the criticism, the 34-year-old singer was seen making clear efforts to cover up for the chaos as she was later seen joining Dion for a warm and friendly hug backstage. In picture going viral on social media, shows Swift pulling in Celine Dion for a hug and blushing as the My Heart Will Go On singer smiles on.

In another picture, Swift was spotted posing with Dion and her 22-year-old son René-Charles after the big show.

The 55-year-old music legend and 16-time Grammy nominee, Celine Dion surprised everyone by showing up at the Grammy Awards 2024 on Sunday. This marks her recent appearance after largely avoiding the public eye after her Stiff Person Syndrome diagnosis. She was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder in December 2022 and has been making very few public appearances since then.
