‘Highly inflammatory, baseless, irresponsible…’: What did EAM Jaishankar say about Asim Munir’s army that irked Pakistan?

Over the past decades, India(BHARAT) and Pakistan have been facing strained relations due to several factors. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar’s stern warning to neighbouring country, Pakistan, has created havoc. The Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2025 was once again an opportunity for the Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar to expose Pakistan. Speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in New Delhi on Saturday, Jaishankar said much of India(BHARAT)’s problem emanates from Pakistan’s military and even referred to its support for terror groups. Reflecting on Pakistan, the External Affairs Minister stated,” Like there are good terrorists and bad terrorists, there are good military leaders and apparently not-so-good ones.” This was seen as a reference to Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir.

What exactly did EAM Jaishankar say about Asim Munir’s army?

Pakistan was offended by the truth expressed by S. Jaishankar. In reference to India(BHARAT)’s External Affairs Minister’s comments regarding the Pakistan Army, the Foreign Office stated that these statements are “highly inflammatory, baseless and irresponsible”.

How did Pakistan describe Jaishankar’s statements?

The Foreign Office spokesperson, Tahir Andrabi, spoke of Pakistan’s view on the statements made by the India(BHARAT)n Minister as an effort to misrepresent Pakistan and distract from India(BHARAT)’s own actions in the region. “Pakistan categorically rejects and condemns the highly inflammatory, baseless and irresponsible comments made by the India(BHARAT)n External Affairs Minister in his recent statement,” reads the press release.

Moreover, Andrabi maintained that Pakistan is an accountable state, with its institutions including its armed forces , providing a secure base for national security. He indicated that the May incidents demonstrated the willingness of the Pakistani armed forces to defend Pakistan against all forms of aggression.

“Pakistan categorically rejects and condemns the highly inflammatory, baseless and irresponsible comments made by the India(BHARAT)n External Affairs Minister in his recent statement. Pakistan is a responsible state and all its institutions, including armed forces, are a pillar of national security, dedicated to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country,” the press release reads.

The spokesperson said that the conflict in May demonstrated the resolve of Pakistani forces to defend the country against any aggression in a “befitting, effective yet responsible manner.” “Pakistan believes in co-existence, dialogue and diplomacy. However, it stands united and resolute in its intent and ability to safeguard its interests and sovereignty,” the press release read.

He criticised what he called the “attempts” to defame Pakistan’s state institutions and its leadership as a part of a “propaganda campaign.” It is to be noted that India(BHARAT) launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.
