Houthi rebels preparing to launch big attack on Israel, have set up weapons factories across mountains and desert

New Delhi: Yemen’s Houthi rebels are no longer just carrying out attacks but establishing weapons factories in the mountains and desert. Having developed long-range missiles and powerful drones, the Houthis are now posing a direct threat to Israel. This is why Israel recently launched a massive airstrike on Sana’a, the capital of Yemen.

A few days ago, Israel launched a massive airstrike on Sana’a as part of Operation Moving Package. Over 65 bombs were dropped, destroying a Houthi command centre and weapons depots. This attack occurred after a Houthi drone attacked the Israeli city of Eilat, injuring over 20 people.

Houthis preparing for major attack on Israel

Officials say the Houthis are adopting the same approach Iran teaches its allies: building a robust weapons industry domestically instead of importing weapons from abroad. These weapons include heavier, more accurate, and more evasive drones and missiles. Israeli intelligence agencies also suspect the Houthis are preparing to launch a large-scale attack similar to Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

Large-scale training underway

This plan is being called “Hurricane Al-Aqsa” or “Jerusalem Flood.” The Houthis are recruiting local militias and training them for large-scale infiltration. However, experts believe that if such an attack were to occur, it would likely originate not directly from Yemen but from Jordan or Syria to avoid drawing suspicion from Yemen.

Israel creates task force

In response to this threat, Israel has established a new intelligence-gathering task force on Yemen. Their goal is to map Houthi weapons manufacturing plants and command centres and eliminate them promptly. Israel says that if timely action is not taken, the Houthis could develop thousands of precision long-range missiles in the future, posing a significant threat not only to Israel but to the entire region. This month, the United States also imposed sanctions on more than 24 companies to curb Houthi funding.
