In Zubeen Garg death case, who is Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, the man detained by SIT?

The Assam government-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) is currently investigating the death of singer Zubeen Garg. As part of the investigation, musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami has been detained. He was arrested on the same day the SIT raided the residences of Shyamkanu Mahanta, the organiser of the Northeast India(BHARAT) Festival, and his manager, Siddharth Sharma.

Who is Shekhar Jyoti Goswami?

Shekhar Jyoti Goswami is reportedly a drummer who was with Zubeen Garg during his final moments while scuba diving in Singapore. According to a report by The New India(BHARAT)n Express, Goswami was a long-time bandmate of Zubeen Garg. Interestingly, his Instagram bio describes him as a sound engineer, music producer, arranger, composer, and computer hardware engineer. However, the authorities have not yet disclosed the reason for his detention.

How did Zubeen Garg die?

Singer Zubeen Garg, 52, died by drowning while scuba diving in Singapore. He had traveled there to participate in the Northeast India(BHARAT) Festival and passed away on September 19. Zubeen’s death certificate, issued by a hospital in Singapore, listed drowning as the cause of death.

However, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed hope that the post-mortem report would provide further clarity. He also assured that if the SIT investigation proves unsatisfactory, the Assam government will recommend a CBI probe.

She absolved Garg’s manager, Siddharth Sarma, and others who were being blamed for Zubeen’s death by many. She stated how Siddhartha was not merely a colleague but family, someone Zubeen himself would never have allowed to be maligned.
