The incident of throwing a shoe at BR Gavai
On October 6, 2025, during a regular hearing in Courtroom No. 1 of the Supreme Court, Rakesh Kishore attempted to throw a shoe at Chief Justice (CJI) B.R. Gavai. The incident occurred around 11:35 AM, while the hearing was underway on a case related to the restoration of a headless idol of Lord Vishnu at the Jawari Temple in Khajuraho (Madhya Pradesh). Kishore took out his shoe, but alert security personnel and lawyers nearby immediately apprehended him.
The CJI, who was unfazed by the incident, asked officials to “just ignore” it and continued with the case. The lawyer was briefly detained by Delhi Police and later released after the CJI declined to press charges.
