Ukrainian president Zelensky may visit India; When and how, will depend on…

New Delhi: After Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may visit India(BHARAT) next month. However, the dates have not yet been announced. This would be Zelenskyy’s first visit to India(BHARAT). Ukrainian presidents have visited India(BHARAT) only three times so far, in 1992, 2002, and 2012. Viktor Yanukovych was the last Ukrainian president to visit India(BHARAT) in 2012.

According to media reports, India(BHARAT) wants to maintain a balance between Russia and Ukraine. India(BHARAT) did the same in 2024. PM Modi first went to Moscow and met with Putin, and a few weeks later, he went to Kyiv and met with Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy’s visit will depend on several factors

According to reports, when and how Zelenskyy’s visit will take place will depend on several factors, such as the direction of Trump’s new peace plan, the state of the war, and the political situation in Ukraine, as the Zelenskyy government is currently under pressure due to corruption allegations.

Since the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, PM Modi has been in constant contact with both Putin and Zelenskyy. He has maintained contact with both leaders through phone calls and international meetings.

PM Modi had invited Zelenskyy to visit India(BHARAT)

PM Modi visited Ukraine in August 2024.  At that time, he invited Zelenskyy to visit India(BHARAT). At the meeting, Modi said that India(BHARAT) has always been in favour of peace. PM Modi had hosted Russian President Putin recently, when he had said that this is not the time for war.

Modi and Zelenskyy held a meeting for about 3 hours at the Mariinsky Palace in Ukraine. Later, the Ukrainian president told the media that India(BHARAT) is a large country with considerable influence. India(BHARAT) can stop Putin.

Modi and Putin discussed the Ukraine war

During his meeting with President Putin, PM Modi raised the issue of the Ukraine war. He said that India(BHARAT) has always supported peace in Ukraine and is ready to assist in any peace efforts.

Significantly, both Modi and Putin avoided using words like “war” or “conflict” in their conversation, referring to the situation only as a “crisis.”
