Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked officials to submit a report on the death of a 27-year-old software engineer in Noida district within five days and ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the incident.


Senior government officials said the chief minister took cognisance of the matter after videos of the incident went viral on social media platforms, sparking public outrage over the alleged negligence of local authorities.


Three-member SIT formed to probe Noida techie’s death


In a statement, officials said a three-member SIT will probe the circumstances that led to the death of the young techie two days ago in Noida’s Sector 150 area after his car fell into a water-filled pit dug at an under-construction site.

Officials said the SIT will be headed by the Additional Director General (ADG), Meerut Zone, with Meerut Divisional Commissioner and Chief Engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) as its members.

“The team has been directed to conduct a thorough probe into all the aspects related to the incident and apprise the chief minister about its findings within five days,” read the statement.

It further said that all the departments concerned have been directed to extend full cooperation to the SIT in discharge of its duties.

“The victim Yuvraj Mehta (27) was returning to his residence in Sector 150 early in the morning when his car may have skidded off the road due to fog and fell into the pit which was dug at the construction site and filled with water,” a senior official said.

The incident led to protests by local residents and an FIR was registered against real estate developers. Police are probing the death under relevant sections pertaining to death due to negligence.

Father alleges negligence, demands punishment for officials responsible

Mehta’s father Raj Kumar Mehta alleged negligence by local authorities and demanded punishment to those responsible. “Action should be taken against everyone who is involved…so that no one else has to lose their son like this,” the grieving father said.
