Bollywood has many actors who have been married more than once. Renowned filmmaker and director Mahesh Bhatt is one such example. Mahesh Bhatt was first married to Lorraine Bright, also known as Kiran Bhatt, with whom he had two children, Pooja Bhatt and Rahul Bhatt. However, a few years later, Soni Razdan, known for her exceptional acting in the 80s and 90s, entered Mahesh Bhatt’s life. Soni delivered several hit films in her career, but upon marrying Mahesh Bhatt, she withdrew from acting and lost work.

Soni Razdan’s father was a Kashmiri Pandit

Soni Razdan was born on this day, October 25, 1956, in Birmingham, England. Her father was a Kashmiri Pandit and her mother was German-British. Soni Razdan adopted both her parents’ cultures and then converted to Islam to marry Mahesh Bhatt, who was nine years her senior and had two children. Bhatt was already married and had two children.

Started acting career with English theatre

Soni Razdan was interested in acting from an early age. She began her career in English theater and then worked in the English film “The Collector.” This film, released in the 1970s, was not as successful. In 1981, Soni starred in the Bengali film “36 Chowringhee Lane,” which depicted the plight of Anglo-India(BHARAT)ns. That same year, she made her Bollywood debut, playing Deepa in her first film, “Ahista Ahista.”

Soni Razdan’s career

After Ahista Ahista, Soni Razdan proved her acting prowess in films like Mandi (1983), Saraansh (1984), Trikaal (1985), and Khamosh (1986). Furthermore, she also appeared in the 1986 serial “Buniyaad” and impressed audiences with her performance. However, as soon as she married Mahesh Bhatt, her career derailed. She stopped getting work, and after a while, she distanced herself from the screen completely.

Rumours of marriage halted her professional career

In an interview, Soni Razdan revealed how actresses once stopped getting work in films after marriage, and the same thing happened with her. As soon as news of her marriage spread, she stopped getting work. Unable to find work in films, she turned to television and was offered a serial. Years later, Soni made a comeback in 2011 with “Monsoon Wedding” and then worked with her daughter Alia Bhatt in “Raazi.” Recently, she also appeared in the Amazon Prime Video series “Pipa.”
