The United States has made a significant move for India(BHARAT) by approving a $93 million arms sale(Rs 8229342150). This allows New Delhi to obtain a new shipment of Javelin anti-tank missiles and Excalibur precision-guided artillery rounds.
Who approved the $93 million arms deal for India(BHARAT)?
The proposed package contains 100 FGM-148 Javelin missiles, 25 Lightweight Command Launch Units, and 216 Excalibur rounds. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notes that India(BHARAT)’s request also includes lifecycle support, security inspection, operator training, refurbishment services for the launch units, and other items necessary for full operational capability, as reported by India(BHARAT)Today.

The statement noted that India(BHARAT) would face no challenges in integrating these weapons and services into its armed forces. The U.S. approved this arms sale at a time when India(BHARAT) and Pakistan had recently engaged in direct military confrontations a few months ago.
“The proposed sale will improve India(BHARAT)’s capability to meet current and future threats by providing precision capability equipment, which will increase first strike accuracy in its brigades. India(BHARAT) will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces,” reads the official website of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).
Why is this deal considered historic for India(BHARAT)-U.S. defense relations?
Washington also approved the sale of Excalibur guided artillery rounds, which are valued at around $47 million, raising the total value of the arms deal to $93 million. The DSCA highlighted that this sale will not alter the basic military balance in the region. Further it stated, “The principal contractor will be RTX Corporation, located in Arlington, VA. At this time, the U.S. Government is not aware of any offset agreement proposed in connection with this potential sale. Any offset agreement will be defined in negotiations between the purchaser and the contractor.”
“The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to India(BHARAT) of Javelin Missile System and related equipment for an estimated cost of $45.7 million,” reads the statement.
The Javelin system, developed by RTX and Lockheed Martin, is an anti-tank missile system that enables infantry units to accurately target armored assets from a distance.
