Tel Aviv: Twenty-two people were killed in Gaza on Wednesday in Israeli strikes, Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency reported. With this, the clouds of crisis have started to loom over the ceasefire reached last month between Israel and Hamas. Meanwhile, the Israeli military said that it is attacking Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip. Talking to news agency AFP, the Civil Defense Agency, which operates under Hamas’ control, said that 12 people were killed in Gaza City and 10 in the southern Khan Younis area in the Israeli military attacks. It is important to note that that Wednesday’s attacks were among the deadliest in the area since the ceasefire was implemented.

The Israeli Army issued a statement where it said that soldiers were operating in the southern region when terrorists opened fire in that direction. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) described this as a violation of the ceasefire agreement. In response, the IDF launched attacks on Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip.

A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was implemented on October 10 last month under U.S. mediation, and despite high tensions, it has remained in place until now.

As per the Hamas’s Health Ministry in Gaza, since the ceasefire came into effect, Israel has repeatedly carried out strikes on Hamas positions, resulting in the deaths of more than 280 Palestinians. The highest number of casualties was recorded on October 29, when more than 100 people were killed in Israeli strikes.
