US President Doland Trump has often reiterated that he averted a war between India(BHARAT) and Pakistan. Earlier on Sunday (local time), he once again claimed that he averted a potential war between India(BHARAT) and Pakistan by leveraging the threat of heavy tariffs while asserting that “seven planes were shot down” during the heightened tensions in May between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump stated that his administration utilized trade pressure to de-escalate the situation, which he stated was on the brink of a nuclear conflict. Trump stated,” I’ve ended, you know, eight wars that we just mentioned. Five of them have been ended because of tariffs. The threat of tariffs, as an example, kept India(BHARAT) and Pakistan–two nuclear nations–from going at it.”

He stated, “They were going at it–seven planes were shot down. That’s a lot. And they were going at it. That could have been a nuclear war.”

Trump’s remarks on the India(BHARAT)-Pakistan conflict refer to the May escalation that followed India(BHARAT)’s Operation Sindoor, where India(BHARAT) launched a series of precision strikes against nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) in reprisal for the terror attack that killed 26 civilians in Pahalgam on 22 April.

The US President also claimed that his direct intervention, including the threat of imposing 200 per cent tariffs, led to a de-escalation.”I said to India(BHARAT) and Pakistan pretty much the same thing: ‘Look, if you’re going to fight each other, I’m not going to do business with you. We’re going to put on a 200 per cent tariff. It’ll make it impossible for you to do business,'” he said
