UP begins crackdown to remove illegal immigrants after CM Yogi’s order

The Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday implemented the filtration drive to track unauthorised immigrants in the state. This comes a day after the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave an order. The government stated that security has been increased at the border areas surrounding the state.

What’s the UP government saying?

The Uttar Pradesh government said, “In recent years, incidents involving infiltration, fake identity documents, and activities affecting stability have risen in border regions, directly impacting the state. The unauthorised settlement of foreign nationals in cities under forged identities poses a challenge not only to law and order but also to social balance and the fair distribution of public resources.”

It further highlighted that the crackdown will be done in a “fair and transparent” manner, adding, “At the same time, strict action will be taken against those found using fraudulent documents or involved in suspicious activities.”

What are the officials saying?

A senior official from the state said, “All District Magistrates and senior police officials have been instructed to give top priority to verifying foreign nationals and thoroughly reviewing their documentation.”

What’s the possible impact?

The impact of the crackdown may be seen in cities like Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Varanasi. It’s because these cities have great populations and high infrastructural demand.

The Chief Minister of the state, Yogi Adityanath, had instructed all the District Magistrates (DMs) to conduct the drive in a swift manner.
