A young couple were found hanging from a tree at the temple where they had gotten married just 22 days ago in Uttar Pradesh Sitapur district.
UP Suicide: In a shocking incident, the bodies of a newly-married couple were found hanging from a tree at a temple in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh, where the young lovers had tied the knot just 22 days ago on December 6.
According to the police, the incident occurred in Aniya Kala village under the Hargaon police station area, adding that the deceased, identified as 22-year-old Khushi Ram and his wife, Mohini, 19, had married against their families’ wishes, and were living with the groom’s family.
Khushi and Mohini, distant relatives, were in a relationship for a long time, but their families opposed the union, prompting the young couple to elope from their homes and get married at the Mahamai temple in Hargaon in Sitapur district, Station House Officer (SHO) Balwant Singh Shahi was quoted as saying.
After the wedding, Khushi Ram and Mohini, both residents of Basti Purwa under the Laharpur police station area, were living with Ram’s family, and on Sunday morning, their bodies were found hanging from a tree at the same temple, the officer said.
Police said that prima facie the deaths appear to be a case of suicide, however, investigators have not ruled out other possible causes such as mental stress or family pressure as the couple had married against the wishes of their respective families.
