‘US to launch ground attacks on Latin America’: Trump’s major announcement regarding Venezuela; Defiant Maduro refuses to bow down
President Trump said that the US is now taking its military action against drug trafficking to the ground level.
New Delhi: US President Doland Trump has announced that the United States will soon launch ground attacks on locations linked to drug trafficking in Latin America. While Trump did not specify when or where this action would take place, he indicated that the military operation might not be limited to Venezuela. Meanwhile, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has issued a clear warning regarding the attack. Maduro says he will not bow to threats.
US Is Taking Military Action To The Ground Level: Trump
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, President Trump said that the US is now taking its military action against drug trafficking to the ground level. Trump said that 96 percent of the drug supply coming into the US via sea routes has been stopped, and the next focus will be on land routes.
Trump said, “We’ve stopped 96 percent of the drugs coming in by water. Now we’re starting on land. It’s much easier on land, and it’s going to happen.” However, the president once again refused to specify when these ground attacks would begin, which areas would be targeted, and which countries would be directly affected. He also did not clarify whether the countries involved could still somehow avert this potential military action.
Pentagon Has Carried Out Series Of Attacks In International Waters
For the past few days, Trump has been consistently signalling that the US is going to expand the scope of its anti-drug campaign. This statement comes after the Pentagon carried out a series of attacks on drug-trafficking vessels in international waters off the coast of South America.
While Trump’s aggressive stance is primarily seen as a strategy to put pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, Trump clarified on Friday that the scope of these operations might not be limited to Venezuela.
