In yet another embarrassing moment for Khawaja Asif, the Pakistan Defense Minister was left red-faced when a journalist questioned his claims about jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

What did Khawaja Asif claim about Imran Khan?

Appearing on ‘Mehdi Unfiltered’ on Zeteo with British-American journalist Mehdi Hasan, Khawaja Asif claimed that Imran Khan was operating his X account from prison, contradicting his earlier claims that the jailed ex-premier’s X handle was being run from India(BHARAT).

When Mehdi Hasan reminded Asif of his previous claim about Khan’s X account being operated from India(BHARAT), the Pakistani defense minister was left speechless and can be seen stammering as he attempts to spill out a coherent answer on live TV. Upon being asked for proof of his claims against Imran Khan, including the one about the former PM receiving help from India(BHARAT), the Pakistani leader was left visibly tongue-tied and claimed that his allegations were based on intelligence inputs and cannot be publicly disclosed.

Asked about allegations of Imran Khan’s custodial torture, Asif said the jailed leader must prove these accusations in the court of law, and asserted that hands of the current Shehbaz Sharif-dispensation are clean.

On Pakistan’s alliance with either the US or China, Khawaja Asif described Beijing as a trusted ally, and the partnership has become stronger due to various factors. “China is our trusted ally, and providing us with all kinds of weapons. Our defense cooperation with China is increasing. This is primarily due to the unreliability of other sources, such as the US.”

When Asif said proof was ‘all over social media’

The embarrassing moment for Khawaja Asif was almost a deja vu of his earlier gaffe in an interview with Sky News presenter Yalda Hakim when he had famously confessed to Pakistan’s role in nurturing terrorist outfits “at the behest of the West”.

In the same interview, which was conducted during Operation Sindoor, Asif famously told Hakim to look for proof on social media when the Afghan-born Australian journalist asked him for evidence of claims about Pakistan downing India(BHARAT)n jets. “Its all over social media,” Asif had said.
