Pakistan military establishment led by Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, along with the PM Shehbaz Sharif-led civilian government, continues to make moves to crush Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as more than 70 legislators of the jailed ex-premier’s party, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and ex-CM Ali Amin Gandapur are wanted by the Islamabad Police.

What are the charges against PTI lawmakers?

As per Pakistani media reports, citing police sources, at least 70 out of PTI’s 92 lawmakers in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, including CM Sohail Afridi and ex-CM Ali Amin Gandapur, have a litany of criminal cases registered against them by the Islamabad Police, with most cases being related to violent protests and attacks on law enforcement personnel.

According to police records, most cases against PTI legislators in the KP Assembly are registered at various police stations across Islamabad, with former CM Ali Amin Gandapur facing the highest number of cases; a total of 52 FIRs being registered against him between 2022 and November 2024 in 18 different police stations of the federal capital.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is wanted in 11 separate cases, including seven cases registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), along with additional allegations related to attacks on police officials, while Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi was booked in November 2024 for allegedly leading a violent protest.

Authorities said the charges against lawmakers of Imran Khan-led PTI include terrorism, attacks on police and Rangers personnel, and other serious offences.

Which other PTI members are wanted?

KP Minister for Local Government and Higher Education Meena Khan Afridi faces four cases registered at Golra, Aabpara, Noon and Secretariat police stations in Islamabad.

Similarly, Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Babar Swati is wanted in a case registered at the Secretariat Police Station, while a prominent political figure from Swabi, Faisal Tarakai, has been nominated in a case under seven provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act..

Aaqibullah, brother of former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, has also been booked in a case registered at the Secretariat Police Station, police sources confirmed, according to a PTI report.

Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has 92 legislators in 145-member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly.
