New Delhi: Former First Lady Michelle Obama has made a major statement regarding the next US presidential race. She stated that the United States is not currently ready for a female president. Speaking at an event on Saturday, November 15, 2025, Michelle ruled out any possibility of running for president.

Michelle Obama said that not enough space has been created for the possibility of a female president. The former First Lady was in Brooklyn, New York, promoting her new book, “The Look,” with actress Tracee Ellis Ross. The book is based on her and former President Barack Obama’s perspectives on fashion and politics during their time in the White House. Barack Obama served as the 44th President of the United States from 2009-2017.

“We’re not ready…”

When asked about the possibility of Michelle Obama running for president in 2028, she referred to the failed presidential bids of former Vice President Kamala Harris and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and said, “As we saw in the last election, sadly, we’re not ready. That’s why I’m saying, ‘Don’t even look at me about running because you’re all lying.'”

“I will not run for president. No, nope, not going to do it,” she said in 2016 while still serving as first lady.

Is America ready for a female president?

Michelle Obama continued during the conversation, “You’re not ready for a woman. You’re not. So don’t waste my time.” The former First Lady’s response drew applause from the audience. Michelle further said, “We still have a lot to learn and sadly there are still many men who do not think a woman can lead them and we have seen that.”

Obama campaigned for Kamala Harris last year, raising alarm about what she described as the threat Trump poses to the country, particularly to women’s health.
