New Delhi: US President Doland Trump has named India(BHARAT), Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan among 23 major countries involved in the illegal production and trafficking of narcotics. Calling these nations a threat to the security of America and its citizens, Trump said that he has identified 23 countries as “major countries involved in the illegal production and trafficking of narcotics.”
President Trump made this statement in “Presidential Determination” presented in Congress (the US Parliament) on Monday. The 23 “major countries involved in the illegal production and trafficking of narcotics” are Afghanistan, the Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Myanmar, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India(BHARAT), Jamaica, Laos, Mexico, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela.
What is a Presidential Determination?
A “Presidential Determination” is a directive issued by the White House, which outlines decisions made under the official policy or stance of the executive branch of the US federal government. The White House, in its statement, said that Doland Trump has submitted to Congress a “list of major countries” that are responsible for the supply and trafficking of illegal narcotics into the United States.
What did the US say about the list?
It said that the list is “based on a combination of geographic, commercial, and economic factors that allow the production or trafficking of narcotic drugs or the chemicals used in their manufacture, even if the governments concerned have taken strict and effective law enforcement measures to combat drug production and trafficking.”
More focus on these 5 countries
The State Department said that among the 23 countries mentioned in the “Presidential Determination,” five (Afghanistan, Bolivia, Myanmar, Colombia, and Venezuela) have been listed as “countries that have clearly failed to make sufficient efforts,” and they have been called upon to improve their actions against narcotics.
