What weather conditions are expected in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh?
According to the Meteorological Department, Dense to Very dense fog conditions are very likely to continue during the night/morning hours over Odisha, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi till January 5; East Uttar Pradesh till January 2; West Rajasthan till January 3, 2026. “Cold day conditions are very likely at isolated pockets over East Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on December 31; Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on January 1; Bihar on December 31 and January 1, 2026,” IMD in a press release said.
Why has the rainfall alert been issued?
According to the India(BHARAT)n Meteorological Department, fairly widespread to widespread heavy rainfall/snowfall is very likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad on December 31 and January 1, and scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall/snowfall over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during December 31 to January 2, 2026.
Isolated to scattered light rainfall is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan on December 31 and January 1, and west Uttar Pradesh and Delhi on January 1, 2026. Isolated Thunderstorm and lightning likely over gusty wind speed (30-40kmph) likely to prevail over Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Tamilnadu during December 31 and January 1, 2026, and heavy rainfall likely over Tamilnadu on December 31, 2025.
When will the dense fog conditions persist?
Dense fog conditions also likely during night/morning hours at isolated pockets Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-GilgitBaltistan-Muzaffarabad and Jharkhand till January 2; over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till January 5; Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi till January 7; west Rajasthan till January 4; East Rajasthan during January 2-4; Madhya Pradesh till January 1 and during January 4 and 5; Gangetic West Bengal till January 3, 2026.
Delhi-NCR weather forecast
The IMD stated, “Cold wave conditions very likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh during 02nd-04th; Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi during 03rd-05th; Rajasthan on 05th & 06th; Telangana on 01st January 2026.”
January 1: Generally cloudy sky. Possibility of very light to light rain at isolated places. Shallow to
moderate fog during morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are likely to be in the ranges of 14°C to 16°C and 9°C to 11°C, respectively. The minimum temperature will be above normal (2°C to 4°C) and the maximum temperatures will be appreciably below normal over Delhi. “The predominant surface wind is likely to be from the southeast direction associated with calm wind becoming upto 05 kmph during the morning hours. The wind speed will increase becoming less than 10 kmph from the northeast direction in the afternoon hours. The wind speed will decrease becoming less than 05 kmph from the north direction during evening and night,” IMD in an official press release said.
January 2: Partly cloudy sky. Moderate fog at many places with dense fog at a few places during morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are likely to be in the ranges of 16°C to 18°C and 09°C to 11°C, respectively. The minimum temperature will be above normal (2°C to 4°C) and the maximum temperatures will be near normal over Delhi. “The predominant surface wind is likely to be from the northwest direction with wind speeds less than 10 kmph during the morning hours. The wind speed will increase becoming 12 kmph from the northwest direction in the afternoon. The wind speed will decrease becoming less than 05 kmph from the west-northwest direction during evening/night,” IMD stated.
January 3: Mainly clear sky. Moderate fog at many places with dense fog at a few places during morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are likely to be in the ranges of 16°C to 18°C and 07°C to 09°C, respectively. The minimum temperatures and the maximum temperatures will be near normal over Delhi. As per the IMD, “The predominant surface wind is likely to be from the northwest direction with wind speeds gradually increasing reaching up to 10 kmph during the morning hours. The wind speed will decrease becoming less than 05 kmph from the northwest direction in the afternoon and upto 05 kmph from the west direction during the evening/night.” “Isolated to scattered light rainfall likely over Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh and Rajasthan on 31st & 01st January and west Uttar Pradesh & Delhi on 1st January 2026,” IMD stated.
