Jewellery of Potty: US customs seize Giraffe feces from woman who wanted to make necklace of it

Customs officers at a US airport have confiscated a box of giraffe excreta after a woman attempted to enter the country with it so she could ‘make a necklace with it’.

Upon being chosen to have her belongings searched upon her arrival at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport in Minnesota on September 29, the woman had declared the small package of feces, according to US Customs and Border Protection.

She claimed to have collected the feces while visiting Kenya and brought it back in her luggage to construct a necklace.

The Iowan woman claimed to have previously created a necklace out of moose feces.

According to Minnesota Public Radio, giraffe poop can be imported into the US with the correct authorizations and inspections.

The woman declared the feces and submitted it to customs officials, according to the station, therefore she won’t face punishment.

The giraffe waste was destroyed by the agency’s agricultural experts.

“There is a real danger with bringing feces into the US,” said LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke, a field director for US Customs and Border Protection.

“There is a strong possibility that someone could have contracted a disease from this jewelry and developed serious health issues if this person had entered the US and had not declared these items,” the statement reads.

Among the diseases customs officials have listed as threats in Kenya are swine vesicular disease, African swine fever, classical swine fever, Newcastle disease, foot-and-mouth disease, and Newcastle disease.
