Amid the ongoing power tussle between the Congress’ top brass in Karnataka, a senior MLA has predicted that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar will become the Chief Minister of the state, replacing Siddaramaiah on the top post, on January 6 next year.

Talking to reporters on Saturday, Ramanagara MLA H A Iqbal Hussain, who is a staunch supporter of D K Shivakumar, said that Siddaramaiah should vacate the top post to give Shivakumar a chance to become the chief minister.

Hussain, who has been advocating for DK Shivakumar to be made the chief minister, also predicted that the Deputy CM will ascend top post on January 6. “There is a 99 per cent chance that he becomes chief minister on January 6,” he said.

Asked if the date has any significance, the Congress MLA said, “I don’t know. It’s just a random number. Everybody is saying this. It can either be January 6 or 9. These are the two dates.”

What did BJP say?

Meanwhile, opposition BJP has also weighed in on who should be the next chief minister of Karnataka, with Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna recently announcing his support for Home Minister G Parameshwara for the post.

“Getting power is luck. I never dreamt that Parameshwara would remain just as the Home minister. It is our wish to see him as CM. Not just me but the people of Tumakuru have this desire to see him as the CM,” the BJP MP said at an event in Tumakuru.

When someone from the audience asked about D K Shivakumar, who is a strong contender for the post, Somanna said, “Leave it. That’s secondary. What Shivakumar wants to become depends on his luck. Conduct is even bigger than luck.”
