X Introduces new android interface trial, Slashes premium prices to ₹100 for first month

X (the social media service formerly known as Twitter) seems to be experimenting with a new user-interface for Android users, which is accessible through a secret menu within the app. Tipster Abhishek Yadav, who has shared several leaks about X in the past, now claims the platform is running an in-app test that allows users on version “11.42.0-release.0” of the X Android app to manually opt into a new layout.

By following the tipster’s steps, users may need to open their profile and then choose “NEW X ANDROID” and click “Try it now” to activate the redesigned UI – although as noted by Yadav, it seems that the new update doesn’t appear for everyone, suggesting that the feature is being slowly rolled out.

If the leak checks out, it will be another user-interface update being pushed by X on Android: the platform has been working on design changes recently, as part of a bigger push to make itself more “sticky” as it optimizes both product design and monetization efforts.

New Subscriptions in India(BHARAT)

In other news, X is also reportedly pushing major limited-time discounts on paid subscription plans. As part of the same leak, X users in India(BHARAT) are able to access the first month of the platform’s regular paid plan, X Premium, for just ₹100 (approximately US $1). On the top-tier X Premium Plus plan, users can receive a ₹890 (roughly US $10) discount for the first month. Those are huge discounts: even under regular pricing – outside of the promotional period – X’s Basic plan costs ₹170/month (web & mobile), Premium is ₹427/month (web) or up to ₹470/month (mobile), while Premium Plus starts at ₹2,570/month (web) or up to ₹3,000/month (mobile).

Paid Subscriptions: What do users get?

In addition to fewer ads and general prestige value, X users who opt into these paid tiers gain access to a number of new features. X Premium includes around 50% fewer ads in both “For You” and “Following” timelines, as well as longer post limits, the ability to edit your posts, reply boosts, background video playback, options to download posts, expanded access to X’s AI assistant Grok AI, and other features. X Premium Plus adds on top of that a completely ad-free experience, the highest possible usage limits, the largest reply boosts, and early access to AI/creator tools. For the heaviest users or creators, this is the package that will offer the cleanest and most feature-rich experience.

Why this matters?

The combination of a new user-interface and a dirt-cheap subscription tier could be a strategic push from X as it works to win back subscribers: the platform has seen declining user engagement in recent months as user behavior continues to shift away from the former Twitter, its ad engine continues to sputter and competition in the ad-supported social media space only continues to heat up. The redesign could make the platform more “sticky” again, as could the low-priced entrance into the world of paid X features.

A cheaper monthly subscription is a low-friction way to test a platform, and users who find they like the experience of the redesigned X could stay subscribed even after the price hikes return to normal. For X users in India(BHARAT), ₹100 for a month of Premium on the service is quite a deal. It’s especially enticing if you’ve been waiting to give X a shot to try out new features like the AI tools and ad removal.

It’s also worth pointing out that the monetization battle on social media will increasingly be defined by both subscription and design: it’s becoming more common for platforms to distinguish themselves with how they combine ads with paid features in the context of a broader platform design and experience. For X, we’re seeing the early signs of a shift toward a hybrid monetization model that blends all three: product design, convenience, and paid features.
