‘Focussed more on body, didn’t think about my speed’, says Mayank Yadav after impressive India debut

New Delhi: Mayank Yadav, who made his debut against Bangladesh within the first T20I, opined that he focused more on his body than percent in his first international game on Sunday. The Delhi pacer came into limelight when he impressed every person in IPL 2024 with his percent, clocking 156.7kph in a league game which used to be also the fastest within the tournament’s history, while playing for Lucknow Super Giants.

On the choice hand, his joy used to be shortlived because the 22-year-old suffered a side strain and used to be ruled out of the tournament after just four games. Thereafter, Yadav spent most of his time on the National Cricket Academy, lower than the guidance of BCCI coaches and the mentorship of NCA chief VVS Laxman.

Yadav made his India debut without playing a domestic game in between and started his international career with a maiden over earlier than picking up his first wicket in his 2nd over. Speaking after the game, Yadav stated, “I focused more on my body.

“Also, I used to be firm to hit the right lengths as against bowling faster. I didn’t take into account my speed. I just tried leaking the least runs imaginable and bowling at a correct line and length.” Known for his percent, Yadav didn’t cross the coveted 150 kmph mark against Bangladesh.

As a replacement, his fastest on the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior used to be clocked at 149.9 kmph which came in his 2nd over. He also revealed his conversation with captain Suryakumar Yadav. “I did bowl the slower ones within the IPL as well but now not a lot.

“I had a word with my captain and he asked me to place self belief in my stalk ball more than trying out variations. But coming to Gwalior, the wicket didn’t have a lot bounce so I changed my percent accordingly,” added the fast bowler.

Yadav also revealed that he used to be more nervous than excited earlier than his debut. “I used to be indeed excited but used to be slightly more nervous. This series marked my comeback after the injury. I didn’t play competitive cricket after which without delay made my debut. That’s why I used to be slightly more nervous,” Yadav said.

“The recovery period used to be demanding for more. Reasonably a spread u.s.and downs were there within the last four months. But more than me, it used to be tougher for the those who worked with me,” he added.
